An arrest is when a person is deprived of his or her freedom in relation to an investigation of a crime or the prevention of one, and results in presenting the person to a procedure that is part of the criminal justice system. Someone who is arrested is taken into custody to answer a criminal charge or to prevent the commission of a crime.
