- Answer: The formal written statement by a defendant responding to a civil complaint and setting forth the grounds for defense.
- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. - Testify: Answer questions in court.
If any person summoned to be examined pursuant to section 15A:14-5 shall refuse to be sworn, or to affirm, or to testify, or to answer a proper question, or to produce the books, papers, documents or tangible things demanded, or shall otherwise engage in misconduct, the Superior Court may, on motion, and after affording that person the opportunity to be heard, punish that person in the same manner as like failure is punishable in a case pending in the court.
