Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 54:5-64

  • Continuance: Putting off of a hearing ot trial until a later time.
  • Lien: A claim against real or personal property in satisfaction of a debt.
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. Any lien which may have lapsed prior to March fourth, one thousand nine hundred and eighteen, by reason of delay in enforcement and which was revived by section fifty-seven of the act entitled “An act concerning unpaid taxes, assessments and other municipal charges on real property, and providing for the collection thereof by the creation and enforcement of liens thereon (Revision of 1918),” approved March fourth, one thousand nine hundred and eighteen, shall continue in effect to the end that it may be enforced under the provisions of this chapter, but such revival and continuance shall not operate as against any person who has acquired an interest in the property for value subsequent to such lapse, and without notice of the claim of the municipality.
