Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 10 ILCS 5/23-16

  • Deposition: An oral statement made before an officer authorized by law to administer oaths. Such statements are often taken to examine potential witnesses, to obtain discovery, or to be used later in trial.
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
     A copy of the notice to take depositions, with proof of the service thereof, with the deposition, shall be sealed up and transmitted by mail, or otherwise, to the State Board of Elections, with an indorsement thereon, showing the names of the contesting parties, the office contested, and the nature of the papers.
