Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 625 ILCS 5/4-212

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Lien: A claim against real or personal property in satisfaction of a debt.
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
     Ownership documents for vehicles after public sale – removal of liens. When an applicant for a salvage certificate or junking certificate under this Chapter presents to the Secretary of State proof that he has purchased or acquired a vehicle at a public sale as authorized by this Chapter and such fact is certified to by the law enforcement agency having jurisdiction over the public sale of a vehicle, the Secretary of State shall issue a salvage certificate or junking certificate for the vehicle upon receipt of the statutory fee and a properly executed application for a salvage certificate or junking certificate. The salvage certificate or junking certificate issued by the Secretary of State under this Section shall be free of any lien that existed against the vehicle prior to the time the vehicle was acquired by the applicant under this Chapter.
