- account: refers to an individual development account. See Indiana Code 4-4-28-1
- Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
- Attorney: includes a counselor or other person authorized to appear and represent a party in an action or special proceeding. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- authority: refers to the Indiana housing and community development authority established under IC 5-20-1. See Indiana Code 4-4-28-1.5
- Autism: means a neurological condition as described in the most recent edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Association. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- Beneficiary: A person who is entitled to receive the benefits or proceeds of a will, trust, insurance policy, retirement plan, annuity, or other contract. Source: OCC
- community development corporation: means a private, nonprofit corporation:

- Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
- defibrillator: means an automatic external defibrillator. See Indiana Code 16-31-6.5-3
- department: refers to the department of homeland security established by IC 10-19-2-1. See Indiana Code 16-31-8.5-1
- Dependent: A person dependent for support upon another.
- Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- financial institution: means a bank, savings association, credit union, or any other institution regulated under IC 28 or federal law. See Indiana Code 4-4-28-3
- Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
- food service establishment: means a fixed or mobile establishment that serves food to the public for consumption on the premises. See Indiana Code 16-31-9-1
- Fraud: Intentional deception resulting in injury to another.
- fund: refers to an individual development account fund established by a community development corporation under section 13 of this chapter. See Indiana Code 4-4-28-4
- fund: refers to the emergency medical services fund established by section 3 of this chapter. See Indiana Code 16-31-8.5-2
- Highway: includes county bridges and state and county roads, unless otherwise expressly provided. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- in writing: include printing, lithographing, or other mode of representing words and letters. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- individual development account: means an account in a financial institution administered by a community development corporation that allows a qualifying individual to deposit money:

- Injunction: An order of the court prohibiting (or compelling) the performance of a specific act to prevent irreparable damage or injury.
- Judgment: means all final orders, decrees, and determinations in an action and all orders upon which executions may issue. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- military service applicant: means an applicant for licensure or certification under this article who has performed service as an active member of any of the following:

- motor vehicle: has the meaning set forth in IC 9-13-2-105(a). See Indiana Code 4-4-28-5.5
- nontransporting emergency medical services vehicle: means a motor vehicle, other than an ambulance, used for emergency medical services. See Indiana Code 16-31-3-0.5

- Population: has the meaning set forth in Ind. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
- Property: includes personal and real property. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- qualifying individual: means an individual or a member of an individual's household who may establish an individual development account because the individual:

- Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
- Restitution: The court-ordered payment of money by the defendant to the victim for damages caused by the criminal action.
- Trustee: A person or institution holding and administering property in trust.
- United States: includes the District of Columbia and the commonwealths, possessions, states in free association with the United States, and the territories. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- Year: means a calendar year, unless otherwise expressed. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
