- Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
The cost of keeping a defendant imprisoned by civil process shall be taxed as costs in the action in an amount equal to that provided by the county for maintenance of other county prisoners, and provision shall be made for the maintenance of such prisoners in the same manner as other prisoners of the county.
