Terms Used In Kansas Statutes > Chapter 39 > Article 15 - Adult Family Homes

  • Adult family home: means a private residence in which care is provided for not less than 24 hours in any week for one or two adult clients who: (1) Are not related within the third degree of relationship to the owner or provider by blood or marriage; and (2) by reason of aging, illness, disease or physical or mental infirmity are unable to live independently but are essentially capable of managing their own care and affairs.   • Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
  • Dependent: A person dependent for support upon another.
  • Physician: means any person licensed by the state board of healing arts to practice medicine and surgery. See Kansas Statutes 39-1501
  • Residence: means the place which is adopted by a person as the person's place of habitation and to which, whenever the person is absent, the person has the intention of returning. See Kansas Statutes 77-201
  • Secretary: means the secretary for aging and disability services. See Kansas Statutes 39-1501
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Kansas Statutes 77-201
