Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 13:5912

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.

The Rapides Parish Law Enforcement District, a political subdivision as defined in La. Const. Art. VI, § 44 , is hereby additionally authorized to construct law enforcement and sheriff’s facilities, including but not limited to a jail or prison, located wholly within the territorial jurisdiction of the district.  Said district is further authorized to incur debt and issue general obligation bonds for the purpose of financing such construction subject to approval of the State Bond Commission and approval of a majority of the electors of the district voting in an election called and held for that purpose.  Such bonds shall be issued pursuant to the provisions of Part III of Chapter 4 of Title 39 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950 and shall be sold pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 13 of said Title 39.
