Terms Used In Michigan Laws 3.552

  • Assets: (1) The property comprising the estate of a deceased person, or (2) the property in a trust account.
  • Authority: means a base conversion authority as provided for in this act. See Michigan Laws 3.551
  • Department: means the department of commerce. See Michigan Laws 3.551
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
  • United States: shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
   Upon notification by the United States government that a federal military installation in this state is to be closed, and upon resolution by the township board of the charter township having jurisdiction over the entire area of the military installation requesting the establishment of a base conversion authority, the governor may create by executive order such an authority pursuant to this act, within the department. The sole function of the authority is to serve as a holding and maintenance agency to receive property and assets from the United States department of defense and the state of Michigan.
