No authorized insurer shall deliver or issue for delivery in this State any deferred annuity contract that contains a provision that reduces the death benefit of the contract by a surrender fee when death occurs during the surrender period. (2007-298, s. 1.2.)

Terms Used In North Carolina General Statutes 58-58-147

  • Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories, so called; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the said district and territories and all dependencies.
