(1) A petition to refer a city measure must be signed by not less than 10 percent of the electors registered in the city at the time the prospective petition is filed. The petition must be filed with the city elections officer not later than the 30th day after adoption of the city legislation sought to be referred.

  • City: includes any incorporated village or town. See Oregon Statutes 174.100
  • Measure: includes any of the following submitted to the people for their approval or rejection at an election:

    (a) A proposed law. See Oregon Statutes 250.005

  • Prospective petition: means the information, except signatures and other identification of petition signers, required to be contained in a completed petition. See Oregon Statutes 250.005

(2) A petition to initiate a city measure must be signed by not less than 15 percent of the electors registered in the city at the time the prospective petition is filed. [1979 c.190 § 167; 1983 c.350 § 67; 1989 c.251 § 1]
