Terms Used In South Carolina Code 61-6-4230

  • Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
  • Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
The trial judge in his discretion may impose sentences under the provisions of this article, except § 61-6-4720, or any portion of this article, of a fine or imprisonment of not less than one- half the fine or imprisonment prescribed for conviction under these provisions.
