- Abuse or neglect: means a threat to a child's health or welfare by physical, mental or emotional injury or impairment, sexual abuse or exploitation including under Title 17?A, sections 282, 852, 853 and 855 or deprivation of essential needs, or lack of protection from these, by a person responsible for the child. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 4002
- Any election: means primary and general elections and referenda, whether regular or special. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
- Authority: means the Finance Authority of Maine. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 9201
- Candidate: means any person who has filed a petition under either sections 335 and 336 or sections 354 and 355 and has qualified as a candidate by either procedure, or any person who has received contributions or made expenditures or has given consent for any other person to receive contributions or make expenditures with the intent of qualifying as a candidate. - Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
- Corporation: means the Northern Maine Transmission Corporation established in section 9202, subsection 1. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 9201
- Day care center: means a child care facility, as defined in Title 22, section 8301?A, subsection 1?A, paragraph B. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 17 Sec. 2871
- Distinguishing mark: means a mark on a ballot of a type or in a place not specifically permitted by this Title, which indicates the apparent intent of the voter to make the voter's ballot distinguishable in a manner that is fraudulent or inconsistent with an honest purpose. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
- Fund: means the Northern Maine Transmission Corporation Fund established in section 9204. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 9201
- General election: means the regular election of state and county officials occurring biennially in November. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
