(a) All supreme court justices, judges of the appellate courts, circuit court judges, and district court judges must be licensed attorneys.

Terms Used In Alabama Code 12-10B-2

  • Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
  • Appellate: About appeals; an appellate court has the power to review the judgement of another lower court or tribunal.
  • circuit: means judicial circuit. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
(b)

(1) All supreme court justices, judges of the appellate courts, circuit court judges, and district court judges must complete a minimum of 12 hours of approved continuing legal education annually, one hour of which must be on the subject of ethics.
(2) Any justice or judge who fails to complete the requirements of subdivision (1) shall be subject to disciplinary action by the Judicial Inquiry Commission.
(c) It is the intent of the Legislature that pursuant to Amendment 328 of the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, now appearing as Section 150 of the Official Recompilation of the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, as amended, the Supreme Court of Alabama shall amend its rules to conform with this section.
