Terms Used In Alabama Code 12-16-204

  • Indictment: The formal charge issued by a grand jury stating that there is enough evidence that the defendant committed the crime to justify having a trial; it is used primarily for felonies.

The concurrence of at least 12 grand jurors is necessary to find an indictment, and when so found it must be endorsed “a true bill” and the endorsement signed by the foreman.
