(a) Applicants may obtain a license by successfully passing a qualifying examination; provided, that the applicant:

person: includes a corporation as well as a natural person. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
United States: includes the territories thereof and the District of Columbia. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
year: means a calendar year; but, whenever the word "year" is used in reference to any appropriations for the payment of money out of the treasury, it shall mean fiscal year. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
(1) Is at least 19 years of age;(2) Is of good moral character;(3) Has an education equivalent to a four-year course in an accredited high school;(4) Is free of contagious or infectious disease; and(5) Is a citizen of the United States or, if not a citizen of the United States, a person who is legally present in the United States with appropriate documentation from the federal government.(b) An applicant who meets the qualifications of subsection (a) as determined by the board who applies for license by examination shall appear at a time, place, and before such persons as the board may designate to be examined by means of written and practical tests in order to demonstrate that he or she is qualified to practice the fitting and sale of hearing instruments.(c) The board shall give examinations at least three times each year.
