Terms Used In Alabama Code 37-2-18
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
- person: includes a corporation as well as a natural person. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the several territories of the United States. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
In addition to the penalties and forfeitures provided in this division to the state, railroads or other common carriers shall, for each violation of the provisions of this division, be liable to the person, firm, or corporation injured thereby in three times the amount of damages incurred and suffered.
