  • Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
  • authority: The public corporation organized pursuant to the provisions of this chapter. See Alabama Code 17-3-8
  • board: The board of directors of the authority. See Alabama Code 17-3-8
  • bonds: Such term shall include bonds and notes. See Alabama Code 17-3-8
  • Chambers: A judge's office.
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Counterclaim: A claim that a defendant makes against a plaintiff.
  • county: A county in the state. See Alabama Code 17-3-8
  • Deed: The legal instrument used to transfer title in real property from one person to another.
  • director: A member of the board of directors of the authority. See Alabama Code 17-3-8
  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
  • Foreclosure: A legal process in which property that is collateral or security for a loan may be sold to help repay the loan when the loan is in default. Source: OCC
  • Forgery: The fraudulent signing or alteration of another's name to an instrument such as a deed, mortgage, or check. The intent of the forgery is to deceive or defraud. Source: OCC
  • GOVERNING BODY: The county commission of a county. See Alabama Code 17-3-8
  • Impeachment: (1) The process of calling something into question, as in "impeaching the testimony of a witness." (2) The constitutional process whereby the House of Representatives may "impeach" (accuse of misconduct) high officers of the federal government for trial in the Senate.
  • Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC
  • Lien: A claim against real or personal property in satisfaction of a debt.
  • Mortgage: The written agreement pledging property to a creditor as collateral for a loan.
  • municipality: An incorporated city or town of the state. See Alabama Code 17-3-8
  • person: Unless limited to a natural person by the context in which it is used, such term includes a public or private corporation, a municipality, a county, or an agency, department or instrumentality of a county or municipality, of one or more of the several states or of the United States of America. See Alabama Code 17-3-8
  • personal property: includes money, goods, chattels, things in action and evidence of debt, deeds and conveyances. See Alabama Code 30-3D-608
  • property: Such term means and includes real and personal property and interests therein. See Alabama Code 17-3-8
  • Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.
  • real property: includes lands, tenements and hereditaments. See Alabama Code 30-3D-608
  • state: The State of Alabama. See Alabama Code 17-3-8
  • Venue: The geographical location in which a case is tried.
  • watershed: Such term means and includes all land in the counties of Marion, Colbert, Franklin and Winston, lying within 15 miles of Bear Creek and any of its tributaries. See Alabama Code 17-3-8
