When a respondent undergoing involuntary treatment on an inpatient basis is absent from the treatment facility without, or in excess of, authorization under Alaska Stat. § 47.30.785, the professional person in charge, or that person’s professional designee, may contact the appropriate peace officers who shall take the respondent into custody and return the respondent to the treatment facility. If it is determined by the professional person in charge to be necessary, a member of the treatment facility staff shall accompany the peace officers when they take the respondent into custody. In addition, the family or guardian of the patient and any person known to have been threatened by the patient shall be notified of the patient’s unauthorized absence immediately upon its discovery.
