A. If, by December 31, 2023, a person pays $32,000 to the department for the implementation of this section, the department shall issue Pascua Yaqui tribe special plates. The director may allow a request for Pascua Yaqui tribe special plates to be combined with a request for personalized special plates. If the director allows such a combination, the request shall be in a form prescribed by the director and is subject to the fees for the personalized special plates in addition to the fees required for the Pascua Yaqui tribe special plates.

  • Department: means the department of transportation acting directly or through its duly authorized officers and agents. See Arizona Laws 28-101
  • Director: means the director of the department of transportation. See Arizona Laws 28-101
  • highway: means the entire width between the boundary lines of every way if a part of the way is open to the use of the public for purposes of vehicular travel. See Arizona Laws 28-101
  • including: means not limited to and is not a term of exclusion. See Arizona Laws 1-215
  • Person: includes a corporation, company, partnership, firm, association or society, as well as a natural person. See Arizona Laws 1-215
  • Special plates: means plates issued pursuant to this article. See Arizona Laws 28-2401
  • State: means a state of the United States and the District of Columbia. See Arizona Laws 28-101

B. Of the $25 fee required by section 28-2402 for the original special plates and for renewal of special plates, $8 is a special plate administration fee and $17 is an annual donation.

C. The department shall deposit, pursuant to sections 35-146 and 35-147, all special plate administration fees in the state highway fund established by section 28-6991 and shall transmit all donations collected pursuant to this section to the Pascua Yaqui tribe. The Pascua Yaqui tribe shall use these monies only for the following:

1. Education scholarships, including monies for academic related and extracurricular activities, for children in the Pascua Yaqui tribe.

2. Legal assistance for unrepresented persons.
