  • Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
  • Board: means the State Allocation Board. See California Education Code 17087
  • candidate: includes any officeholder who is subject to a recall election. See California Elections Code 305
  • City: includes "city and county" and "incorporated town" but does not include "unincorporated town" or "village. See California Government Code 20
  • Contamination: means an impairment of the quality of the waters of the state by waste to a degree which creates a hazard to the public health through poisoning or through the spread of disease. See California Health and Safety Code 5410
  • County: includes city and county. See California Health and Safety Code 14
  • County: includes "city and county. See California Public Resources Code 14
  • department: means State Department of Health Services. See California Health and Safety Code 20
  • Director: means "State Director of Health Services. See California Health and Safety Code 21
  • Elections official: means any of the following:

    California Elections Code 320

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Local agency: means any city, county, special district, or other public entity in the state. See California Government Code 3610
  • Nuisance: means anything which: (1) is injurious to health, or is indecent or offensive to the senses, or an obstruction to the free use of property, so as to interfere with the comfortable enjoyment of life or property, and (2) affects at the same time an entire community or neighborhood, or any considerable number of persons, although the extent of the annoyance or damage inflicted upon individuals may be unequal, and (3) occurs during, or as a result of, the treatment or disposal of wastes. See California Health and Safety Code 5410
  • Person: includes any person, firm, association, organization, partnership, limited liability company, business trust, corporation, or company. See California Government Code 17
  • Person: as used in this article also includes any city, county, district, the state or any department or agency thereof. See California Health and Safety Code 5410
  • Pollution: means an alteration of the quality of the waters of the state by waste to a degree which unreasonably affects: (1) such waters for beneficial uses, or (2) facilities which serve such beneficial uses. See California Health and Safety Code 5410
  • Process: includes a writ or summons issued in the course of judicial proceedings of either a civil or criminal nature. See California Government Code 22
  • Regional board: means any California regional water quality control board created pursuant to §. See California Health and Safety Code 5410
  • State: means the State of California, unless applied to the different parts of the United States. See California Health and Safety Code 23
  • State: means the State of California, unless applied to the different parts of the United States. See California Business and Professions Code 21
  • State School Building Aid Fund: means that fund established pursuant to Section 16096. See California Education Code 17087
  • Subdivision: means a subdivision of the section in which the term occurs unless some other section is expressly mentioned. See California Government Code 10
  • Subpoena: A command to a witness to appear and give testimony.
  • Testimony: Evidence presented orally by witnesses during trials or before grand juries.
  • Waste: includes sewage and any and all other waste substances, liquid, solid, gaseous, or radioactive, associated with human habitation, or of human or animal origin, or from any producing, manufacturing, or processing operation of whatever nature. See California Health and Safety Code 5410
  • Waters of the state: means any water, surface or underground, including saline waters, within the boundaries of the state. See California Health and Safety Code 5410
