  • Agency: means the Labor and Workforce Development Agency. See California Labor Code 18.5
  • Commission: means the Public Utilities Commission created by §. See California Public Utilities Code 20
  • Department: means Department of Industrial Relations. See California Labor Code 19
  • Domestic work: means services related to the care of persons in private households or maintenance of private households or their premises. See California Labor Code 1451
  • Domestic work employee: means an individual who performs domestic work and includes live-in domestic work employees and personal attendants. See California Labor Code 1451
  • Domestic work employer: means a person, including corporate officers or executives, who directly or indirectly, or through an agent or any other person, including through the services of a third-party employer, temporary service, or staffing agency or similar entity, employs or exercises control over the wages, hours, or working conditions of a domestic work employee. See California Labor Code 1451
  • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
  • no significant amount of work: means work other than the foregoing did not exceed 20 percent of the total weekly hours worked. See California Labor Code 1451
  • Person: means any person, association, organization, partnership, business trust, limited liability company, or corporation. See California Labor Code 18
  • Personal attendant: means any person employed by a private householder or by any third-party employer recognized in the health care industry to work in a private household, to supervise, feed, or dress a child, or a person who by reason of advanced age, physical disability, or mental deficiency needs supervision. See California Labor Code 1451
  • Spouse: includes "registered domestic partner" as required by §. See California Labor Code 12.2
  • State: means the State of California, unless applied to the different parts of the United States. See California Public Utilities Code 17
