  • Affidavit: A written statement of facts confirmed by the oath of the party making it, before a notary or officer having authority to administer oaths.
  • Amount financed: means the amount required to be disclosed pursuant to paragraph (8) of subdivision (a) of Section 2982. See California Civil Code 2981
  • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
  • Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
  • Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
  • Assets: (1) The property comprising the estate of a deceased person, or (2) the property in a trust account.
  • Bail: Security given for the release of a criminal defendant or witness from legal custody (usually in the form of money) to secure his/her appearance on the day and time appointed.
  • Buyer: means the person who buys or hires a motor vehicle under a conditional sale contract. See California Civil Code 2981
  • Commercial user: means any person who deals in full-size or non-full-size cribs of the kind governed by this chapter who otherwise by one's occupation holds oneself out as having knowledge or skill peculiar to the full-size or non-full-size cribs governed by this chapter, or any person who is in the business of remanufacturing, retrofitting, selling, leasing, subletting, or otherwise placing in the stream of commerce full-size or non-full-size cribs.   • Conditional sale contract: means :

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • County: includes "city and county. See California Public Resources Code 14
  • Crib: means a bed or containment designed to accommodate an infant. See California Health and Safety Code 24501
  • Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
  • department: means the Department of Parks and Recreation and "director" means the Director of Parks and Recreation. See California Public Resources Code 5001.1
  • Dependent: A person dependent for support upon another.
  • Director: means "State Director of Health Services. See California Health and Safety Code 21
  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Felony: A crime carrying a penalty of more than a year in prison.
  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
  • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
  • improvements: includes trees, vines, alfalfa, all growing crops, and all buildings and structures. See California Water Code 25501
  • Infant: means any person less than 35 inches tall and less than three years of age. See California Health and Safety Code 24501
  • land: includes city and town lots and excepts improvements. See California Water Code 25500
  • Liabilities: The aggregate of all debts and other legal obligations of a particular person or legal entity.
  • Misdemeanor: Usually a petty offense, a less serious crime than a felony, punishable by less than a year of confinement.
  • Motor vehicle: means a vehicle required to be registered under the Vehicle Code that is bought for use primarily for personal or family purposes, and does not mean any vehicle that is bought for use primarily for business or commercial purposes or a mobilehome, as defined in Section 18008 of the Health and Safety Code that is sold on or after July 1, 1981.   • Oversight: Committee review of the activities of a Federal agency or program.
  • Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
  • Person: means any natural person, firm, corporation, association, or agent or employee thereof. See California Health and Safety Code 24501
  • Person: includes an individual, company, firm, association, partnership, trust, corporation, limited liability company, or other legal entity. See California Civil Code 2981
  • Power of attorney: A written instrument which authorizes one person to act as another's agent or attorney. The power of attorney may be for a definite, specific act, or it may be general in nature. The terms of the written power of attorney may specify when it will expire. If not, the power of attorney usually expires when the person granting it dies. Source: OCC
  • property: includes property real and personal. See California Civil Code 14
  • Public law: A public bill or joint resolution that has passed both chambers and been enacted into law. Public laws have general applicability nationwide.
  • Purchase order: means a sales order, car reservation, statement of transaction or any other such instrument used in the conditional sale of a motor vehicle pending execution of a conditional sale contract. See California Civil Code 2981
  • Real property: Land, and all immovable fixtures erected on, growing on, or affixed to the land.
  • Seller: means a person engaged in the business of selling or leasing motor vehicles under conditional sale contracts. See California Civil Code 2981
  • Service contract: means "vehicle service contract" as defined in subdivision (c) of Section 12800 of the Insurance Code. See California Civil Code 2981
  • Unpaid balance: means the difference between subdivision (e) and subdivision (f), plus all insurance premiums (except for credit life or disability insurance when the amount thereof is included in the finance charge), which are included in the contract balance, and the total amount paid or to be paid as follows:
