Terms Used In Hawaii Revised Statutes 171-50.1

  • Board: means the board of land and natural resources. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 171-1
  • Fee simple: Absolute title to property with no limitations or restrictions regarding the person who may inherit it.
  • Public purpose: as used in this chapter , unless the context clearly indicates otherwise, includes but shall not be limited to all public uses, the straightening of boundaries of public lands, acquisition of access to landlocked public lands, the consolidation of the holdings of public lands, development of houselots, farmlots, and industrial parks. The board may acquire private lands by negotiated purchase to be exchanged to effect the conversion of leasehold lands to fee simple ownership under section 171-50.2. The legislature declares that such acquisition is for the public purpose of encouraging home ownership on as widespread a basis as possible.
