Terms Used In Hawaii Revised Statutes 425R-12

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Venue: The geographical location in which a case is tried.

The appointment or maintenance of a registered agent in the State does not by itself create the basis for personal jurisdiction over the represented entity in the State. The address of the agent does not determine venue in an action or proceeding involving the entity.
