Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 20 ILCS 820/1

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
     The Department of Natural Resources is authorized for and on behalf of the State to enter into cooperative agreements with the federal government, or the proper department or agency thereof, pursuant to the provisions of an Act of Congress entitled “An Act to authorize cooperation with the several States for the purpose of stimulating the acquisition, development, and proper administration and management of State forests and coordinating Federal and State activities in carrying out a national program of forest-land management, and for other purposes”, approved August 29, 1935, and known as the Fulmer Act for the management, administration, development and purchase by the Department of Natural Resources of any forest lands acquired and over which it has been given jurisdiction by such cooperative agreement.
