Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 20 ILCS 850/1

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
     The jurisdiction over and the control and management of the Illinois and Michigan Canal is transferred from the Department of Transportation to the Department of Natural Resources (formerly designated the Department of Conservation).
