Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 220 ILCS 75/30

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
     Inasmuch as the regulation of the construction, maintenance, and operation of pipelines transporting carbon dioxide, whether interstate or intrastate, falls within the statutory and regulatory jurisdiction of the Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration of the federal Department of Transportation, each carbon dioxide pipeline owner shall construct, maintain, and operate all of its pipelines, related facilities, and equipment in this State in a manner that complies fully with all federal laws and regulations governing the construction, maintenance, and operation of pipelines transporting carbon dioxide, as from time to time amended, and which otherwise poses no undue risk to its employees or the public. This Section shall not be interpreted to act in derogation of any such federal laws or regulations.
