  • Petty offense: A federal misdemeanor punishable by six months or less in prison. Source: U.S. Courts
     Any officer refusing to deliver the remains or body of any deceased person when demanded in accordance with the provisions of this act, shall be guilty of a petty offense; and for a third offense, or any offense thereafter, the person shall be guilty of a Class A misdemeanor.
