  • Freedom of Information Act: A federal law that mandates that all the records created and kept by federal agencies in the executive branch of government must be open for public inspection and copying.      Upon review and approval of an appropriate Institutional Review Board (IRB) or its equivalent on protection of human subjects in research, the Department shall release data not otherwise available for release under the Freedom of Information Act to news media for purposes of public interest research consistent with the fundamental purposes of the Registry.
