  • Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
     Such bond shall be in favor of the People of the State of Illinois, and shall be for the benefit and protection of all patrons of such factory; and a civil action may be had thereon by any person or persons injured by a breach of the conditions thereof, for the use of the person or persons interested, for all damages sustained by them.
