Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 430 ILCS 50/5.10

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
     The Illinois Department of Transportation shall have major jurisdiction over the placarding of the transportation of hazardous materials and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency shall have major jurisdiction in implementing all other requirements of this Act.
