- Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
- State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
The provisions herein shall be severable; and, if any phrase, clause, sentence or provision of this act is declared to be invalid or illegal, or the applicability thereof to any state, agency, person or circumstances is held to be invalid, the validity of the remainder and applicability thereof to any other state, agency, person or circumstance shall not be affected thereby. It is the legislative intent that the provisions of this act be reasonably and liberally construed.
