- Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
- Probation officers: Screen applicants for pretrial release and monitor convicted offenders released under court supervision.
Sec. 1. The judge of the juvenile court shall appoint a chief probation officer and may appoint other probation officers and an appropriate number of other employees to assist the probation department.
