- Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
Sec. 5. Except for carrying a handgun as authorized under IC 11-13-1-3.5, a probation officer does not have the powers of a law enforcement officer.
