This chapter does not prevent or restrict the practice, services, or activities of any of the following:
1. A person licensed in this state by any other law from engaging in the profession or occupation for which the person is licensed, including but not limited to persons set out in section 147.1, subsections 3 and 6.
Terms Used In Iowa Code 148F.4
- Board: means the board of podiatry. See Iowa Code 148F.2
- following: when used by way of reference to a chapter or other part of a statute mean the next preceding or next following chapter or other part. See Iowa Code 4.1
- Orthotics: means the science and practice of evaluating, measuring, designing, fabricating, assembling, fitting, adjusting, or servicing an orthosis under an order from a licensed physician or podiatric physician for the correction or alleviation of neuromuscular or musculoskeletal dysfunction, disease, injury, or deformity. See Iowa Code 148F.2
- Pedorthics: means the science and practice of evaluating, measuring, designing, fabricating, assembling, fitting, adjusting, or servicing a pedorthic device under an order from a licensed physician or podiatric physician for the correction or alleviation of neuromuscular or musculoskeletal dysfunction, disease, injury, or deformity. See Iowa Code 148F.2
- Person: means a natural person. See Iowa Code 154A.1
- Prosthetics: means the science and practice of evaluating, measuring, designing, fabricating, assembling, fitting, adjusting, or servicing a prosthesis under an order from a licensed physician. See Iowa Code 148F.2
- Resident: means a person who has completed an education program in either orthotics or prosthetics and is continuing the person's clinical education in a residency accredited by the national commission on orthotic and prosthetic education. See Iowa Code 148F.2
- State: means a state, territory, or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. See Iowa Code 152E.3
- United States: includes all the states. See Iowa Code 4.1
2. A person employed as an orthotics, prosthetics, or pedorthics practitioner by the government of the United States if that person practices solely under the direction or control of the organization by which the person is employed.
3. A person pursuing a course of study leading to a degree or certificate in orthotics, prosthetics, or pedorthics in an educational program accredited or approved according to rules adopted by the board, if the activities and services constitute a part of a supervised course of study and the person is designated by a title which clearly indicates the person’s status as a student, resident, or trainee.
