Terms Used In Iowa Code 164.8

  • Animal: means a nonhuman vertebrate. See Iowa Code 164.1
  • Official test: means a test for brucellosis approved for a species of designated animal by the department and to the extent applicable by the United States department of agriculture which is conducted under the supervision of, or the authorization from, the department. See Iowa Code 164.1
  • Owner: includes any person owning or leasing a designated animal. See Iowa Code 164.1
  • Quarantine: means the entire herd of designated animals must be confined to a premises designated by the department, if any reactor is disclosed. See Iowa Code 164.1
 A designated animal purchased at an auction market may be officially tested on the auction market premises, in the new owner‘s name at the owner’s request and expense. This official test must be made within twenty-four hours from the time of sale. If the test discloses reactors, the herd of origin shall be placed under quarantine.
