  • Indictment: The formal charge issued by a grand jury stating that there is enough evidence that the defendant committed the crime to justify having a trial; it is used primarily for felonies.
665.12 Indictment not barred.
The punishment for a contempt constitutes no bar to an indictment, but if the offender is
indicted and convicted for the same offense, the court, in passing sentence, must take into consideration the punishment before inflicted.
