Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 45:1164.9

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

If the provisions of La. Rev. Stat. 45:1164.1-45:1164.13 are not substantially complied with, the election shall be illegal and ineffective and enjoined or declared null and void by any court of competent jurisdiction at the suit of any elector who was qualified to vote in the election.  Such a suit must be brought before thirty days after the promulgation of the results of the election.
