Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 15:580

  • bureau: means the Louisiana Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 15:576
  • criminal justice agency: means any government agency or subunit thereof, or private agency which, through statutory authorization or a legal formal agreement with a governmental unit or agency has the power of investigation, arrest, detention, prosecution, adjudication, treatment, supervision, rehabilitation, or release of persons suspected, charged, or convicted of a crime; or which collects, stores, processes, transmits, or disseminates criminal history record or crime information. The bureau shall develop, print, and distribute forms and/or related procedures and regulations for the collection of any information or statistics which it is empowered to obtain to insure the correct reporting of data to the bureau.  The bureau shall provide necessary technical assistance and training to all eligible reporting agencies in the appropriate procedures for completion of all forms and for submission of all information or statistics which the bureau may require.  Upon request, the deputy secretary may direct employees or agents of the bureau to assist any criminal justice agency to establish a local system of identification and record management.
