Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 34:871

  • Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
  • person: includes a body of persons, whether incorporated or not. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 1:10
  • Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.

Any master or person in charge of any vessel upon which the offenses enumerated in La. Rev. Stat. 34:869 are committed, may arrest any person so offending and deliver him to the proper authorities for trial.
