Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 37:1201

  • Board: means the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 37:1164
  • dispensing: means the interpretation, evaluation, and implementation of a prescription drug order, including the preparation and delivery of a drug or device to a patient or patient's agent in a suitable container appropriately labeled for subsequent administration to, or use by, a patient. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 37:1164
  • Pharmacy: means any place located within this state where drugs are dispensed and pharmacy primary care is provided, and any place outside of this state where drugs are dispensed and pharmacy primary care is provided to residents of this state. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 37:1164

A.  Except as otherwise provided in this Chapter, it shall be unlawful for any individual to engage in the practice of pharmacy unless currently licensed or registered to practice under the provisions of this Chapter.

B.  Licensed practitioners authorized under the laws of this state to compound drugs and to dispense drugs to their patients in the practice of their respective professions shall meet the same standards, record keeping requirements, and all other requirements for the dispensing of drugs applicable to pharmacists.

C.  It shall be unlawful for any individual to assist in the practice of pharmacy unless currently registered or certified by the board.
