Accumulated contributions: means the sum of all the amounts credited to a member's individual account, together with regular interest thereon. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1201
Acquittal:
1. Judgement that a criminal defendant has not been proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
2. A verdict of "not guilty."
Actuarial equivalent: means an amount of equal value when computed at the discount rate contained in actuarial assumptions adopted by the board of trustees. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1201
Administration of civil justice: means activities relating to the anticipation, prevention, detection, monitoring or investigation of known, suspected or possible civil violations and prospective and pending civil actions. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 803
Administration of criminal justice: includes the collection, storage and dissemination of criminal history record information. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 703
Administration of criminal justice: means activities relating to the anticipation, prevention, detection, monitoring or investigation of known, suspected or possible crimes. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 803
Administrative compliance order: means an administrative order that is issued by the commissioner against a public water system in violation of state drinking water laws, regulations or rules. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2601
Administrative consent order: means an order issued by the commissioner pursuant to a bilateral agreement between the commissioner and a public water system in violation of state drinking water laws, regulations or rules. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2601
Administrative penalty: means a fine imposed by the commissioner against a public water system in violation of state drinking water laws, regulations or rules. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2601
Administrative remedy: means an administrative compliance order, an administrative consent order or an administrative penalty. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2601
Adult: means a person who has attained the age of 18 years. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
Affidavit: A written statement of facts confirmed by the oath of the party making it, before a notary or officer having authority to administer oaths.
Affirmed: In the practice of the appellate courts, the decree or order is declared valid and will stand as rendered in the lower court.
Agency enforcement action: means an enforcement action initiated by an agency against a small business. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 90-O
Agent: means an individual appointed to serve in the capacity of a superintendent. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
Agreement of the parties: means the mutual agreement of the parties or their authorized representatives, and is distinguished from a unilateral condition imposed by any party to the agreement. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 2361-A
Amenable species: means a species of exotic animal, as defined by the federal acts, the anatomy and biology of which are substantially the same as an animal that is currently inspected. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511
Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
Animal food manufacturer: means a person engaged in the business of preparing animal food, including poultry food, derived wholly or in part from livestock or poultry carcasses or parts or products of carcasses. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511
Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
Answer: The formal written statement by a defendant responding to a civil complaint and setting forth the grounds for defense.
Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
Appraisal: A determination of property value.
Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
Arraignment: A proceeding in which an individual who is accused of committing a crime is brought into court, told of the charges, and asked to plead guilty or not guilty.
Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
Assets: (1) The property comprising the estate of a deceased person, or (2) the property in a trust account.
Attachment: A procedure by which a person's property is seized to pay judgments levied by the court.
Authority: means the Finance Authority of Maine. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 11401
Average final compensation: means :

Bail: Security given for the release of a criminal defendant or witness from legal custody (usually in the form of money) to secure his/her appearance on the day and time appointed.

Beneficiary: A person who is entitled to receive the benefits or proceeds of a will, trust, insurance policy, retirement plan, annuity, or other contract. ^{Source: OCC}

Beneficiary: means any person who receives or is designated to receive a benefit provided by this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1201

Board: means the Board of Licensure of Water System Operators. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2621

Board of directors: means the governing body with statutory powers and duties for a school administrative district. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Board of trustees: means the board provided for in section 1231. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1201

Business day: means any day of the calendar year other than a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1

butt diameter: means the diameter of the severed stem butt, measured outside the bark, the short way through the center, disregarding crevices and cracks. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 2361-A

Butt measure: means the lineal measure of the butt end of tree length wood, without subsequent conversion to volume by any means. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 2361-A

Butt scale: means the volume measure of wood based solely on measurement of the butt end of individual trees and converted to volume by any means. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 2361-A

Central voter registration system: means a single electronic information system and database for voter registration information maintained by the Secretary of State and used by all municipal jurisdictions in the State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1

Challenged ballot: means a ballot cast by one whose eligibility to vote has been questioned during election day. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1

Chief executive officer: means the Chief Executive Officer of the Finance Authority of Maine. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 11401

Child or children: means a person who has not attained the age of 18 years. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72

Closed period: means that time period when the registrar may accept only those voter registration applications presented in person. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1

Code: means the United States Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1201

Commercial processor: means a person who maintains an official establishment under this chapter for the purpose of processing livestock, meat, meat food products, poultry or poultry products other than for the exclusive use in the household of the owner of the commodity by the owner and members of the owner's household and the owner's nonpaying guests and employees. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Commercial slaughterhouse: means a person engaged in the business of slaughtering livestock or poultry other than as a custom slaughterhouse. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Health and Human Services. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1-A

Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Education or the commissioner's designee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry or the commissioner's designee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Commissioner: shall mean the Commissioner of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 3322

Common law: The legal system that originated in England and is now in use in the United States. It is based on judicial decisions rather than legislative action.

Community partner: means a provider of one or more of the following services to students, families or community members:

Community school: means a public elementary or secondary school that:

Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.

Complaint: means a request to the special advocate for assistance under section 90?Q. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 90-O

Confidential criminal history record information: means criminal history record information of the following types:

Consumer package: means a container or package that contains a product in its final form for sale to the end-use consumer. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Consumer Price Index: means the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers, CPI-U, as compiled by the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics; or, if the index is revised or superseded, the board shall employ the Consumer Price Index compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, United States Department of Labor that the board of trustees finds to be most reflective of changes in the purchasing power of the dollar for the broadest population of consumers, including retired consumers. Contaminant: means any physical, chemical, biological or radiological substance or matter in water. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2601

Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.

Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.

Court reporter: means a person who records legal proceedings by stenotype machine or other means allowed under the Maine Rules of Civil Procedure, Rule 30 and provides prompt preparation of an accurate, verbatim written transcript. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 771

Court reporter: A person who makes a word-for-word record of what is said in court and produces a transcript of the proceedings upon request.

Court reporting services: means services provided by a court reporter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 771

Court reporting services provider: means a business, entity or firm that provides or arranges for court reporting services. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 771

Creditable service: means membership service and prior service as a judge which is credited towards retirement in accordance with subchapter IV. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1201

Criminal history record information: includes , but is not limited to, identifiable descriptions or notations of: summonses and arrests; detention; bail; formal criminal charges such as complaints, informations and indictments; any disposition stemming from such charges; post-plea or post-adjudication sentencing; involuntary commitment; execution of and completion of any sentencing alternatives imposed; release and discharge from involuntary commitment; any related pretrial and post-trial appeals, collateral attacks and petitions; and petitions for and warrants of pardons, commutations, reprieves and amnesties. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 703

Criminal justice agency: includes federal courts, Maine courts, courts in any other state, the Department of the Attorney General, district attorneys' offices and the equivalent departments or offices in any federal or state jurisdiction. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 703

Custom processor: means a person who maintains a registered establishment under this chapter for the purpose of processing livestock, meat, meat food products, poultry or poultry products exclusively for use in the household of the owner of the commodity by the owner and members of the owner's household and the owner's nonpaying guests and employees. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Custom slaughterhouse: means a person who maintains a registered establishment under this chapter for the purposes of slaughtering livestock or poultry for another person's exclusive use by that person and members of that person's household and that person's nonpaying guests and employees, and who is not engaged in the business of buying or selling carcasses, parts of carcasses, meat or meat food products or any cattle, sheep, swine, goats, poultry or other designated animals useable as human food. Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.

Dealer: shall mean any person engaged in the business of dealing in, selling, buying, exchanging or trading in weighing or measuring devices in this State;

Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.

Department: means the Department of Health and Human Services. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1-A

Department: means the Department of Education. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1

Dependent: A person dependent for support upon another.

Deposition: An oral statement made before an officer authorized by law to administer oaths. Such statements are often taken to examine potential witnesses, to obtain discovery, or to be used later in trial.

deputy sealer: shall mean , respectively, a sealer of weights and measures, and a deputy sealer of weights and measures, of a municipality or of several municipalities;

deputy state sealer: shall mean , respectively, the State Sealer of Weights and Measures and the Deputy State Sealer of Weights and Measures;

Director: means the person designated by the commissioner to be in charge of the day-to-day operations of the state meat and poultry inspection and licensing program established by this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Discovery: Lawyers' examination, before trial, of facts and documents in possession of the opponents to help the lawyers prepare for trial.

Dismissal: The dropping of a case by the judge without further consideration or hearing. ^Source:

Disposition: includes , but is not limited to: an acquittal; a dismissal, with or without prejudice; the filing of a charge by agreement of the parties or by a court; the determination that a defendant is currently a fugitive from justice; a conviction, including the acceptance by a court of a plea of guilty or nolo contendere; a deferred disposition; a proceeding indefinitely continued or dismissed due to a defendant's incompetence; a finding of not criminally responsible by reason of insanity or its equivalent; a mistrial, with or without prejudice; a new trial ordered; an arrest of judgment; a sentence imposition; a resentencing ordered; an execution of and completion of any sentence alternatives imposed, including but not limited to fines, restitution, correctional custody and supervision, and administrative release; a release or discharge from a commitment based upon a finding of not criminally responsible by reason of insanity or its equivalent; the death of the defendant; any related pretrial and post-trial appeals, collateral attacks and petitions; a pardon, commutation, reprieve or amnesty; and extradition. Dissemination: means the transmission of information by any means, including but not limited to orally, in writing or electronically, by or to anyone outside the criminal justice agency that maintains the information. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 703

Docket: A log containing brief entries of court proceedings.

Domesticated deer: means fallow deer, family Cervidae, subfamily Cervinae, genus Dama; red deer, family Cervidae, subfamily Cervinae, genus Cervus, species Elaphus; and any other species specified under Title 7, section 1333, subsection 1 kept as domestic animals for breeding stock or for sale as food. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Drug treatment center: means a facility as defined in Title 22, section 8001, which provides substance use disorder treatment. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 9701

Earnable compensation: means the annual salary as a judge. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1201

Eligible entity: means a domestic or foreign unincorporated entity or a domestic or foreign nonprofit corporation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 13-C Sec. 1101

Eligible interests: means interests and memberships. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 13-C Sec. 1101

Eligible student: means any resident of the State between the ages of 5 and 20 years who is otherwise eligible for public schooling under this Title. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 9701

Entitlement: A Federal program or provision of law that requires payments to any person or unit of government that meets the eligibility criteria established by law. Entitlements constitute a binding obligation on the part of the Federal Government, and eligible recipients have legal recourse if the obligation is not fulfilled. Social Security and veterans' compensation and pensions are examples of entitlement programs.

Equitable: Pertaining to civil suits in "equity" rather than in "law." In English legal history, the courts of "law" could order the payment of damages and could afford no other remedy. See damages. A separate court of "equity" could order someone to do something or to cease to do something. See, e.g., injunction. In American jurisprudence, the federal courts have both legal and equitable power, but the distinction is still an important one. For example, a trial by jury is normally available in "law" cases but not in "equity" cases. ^{Source: U.S. Courts}

Ex officio: Literally, by virtue of one's office.

Executive order: means an order of the President of the United States or the chief executive of a state that has the force of law and that is published in a manner permitting regular public access. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 703

Executor: A male person named in a will to carry out the decedent

Extradition: The formal process of delivering an accused or convicted person from authorities in one state to authorities in another state.

Fair market value: The price at which an asset would change hands in a transaction between a willing, informed buyer and a willing, informed seller.

Farm product or raw product: shall mean potatoes. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 3322

Feasible: means capable of being done within the current limitation of economics and technology, as determined by the commissioner. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2601

Federal acts: means the Federal Meat Inspection Act and the Poultry Products Inspection Act. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Federal Meat Inspection Act: means the Act so entitled, approved March 4, 1907, 34 Stat. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Fiduciary: A trustee, executor, or administrator.

Finished product: shall mean any manufactured or processed form of potatoes. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 3322

Foreclosure: A legal process in which property that is collateral or security for a loan may be sold to help repay the loan when the loan is in default. ^{Source: OCC}

Forgery: The fraudulent signing or alteration of another's name to an instrument such as a deed, mortgage, or check. The intent of the forgery is to deceive or defraud. ^{Source: OCC}

Formal involvement in the criminal justice system either as an accused or as a convicted criminal offender: means being within the jurisdiction of the criminal justice system commencing with arrest, summons or initiation of formal criminal charges and concluding with the completion of every sentencing alternative imposed as punishment or final discharge from an involuntary commitment based upon a finding of not criminally responsible by reason of insanity or its equivalent. Fraud: Intentional deception resulting in injury to another.

Garnishment: Generally, garnishment is a court proceeding in which a creditor asks a court to order a third party who owes money to the debtor or otherwise holds assets belonging to the debtor to turn over to the creditor any of the debtor

Gift: A voluntary transfer or conveyance of property without consideration, or for less than full and adequate consideration based on fair market value.

Grand jury: agreement providing that a lender will delay exercising its rights (in the case of a mortgage,

Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.

Hauler: means the person, company or other entity that owns the truck or trailer on which a load of wood is transported. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 2361-A

Health care provider: means an appropriately licensed, certified or registered provider of mental or physical health care, in either the public or private sector. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1201

Immediate container: means a consumer package or any other container in which livestock products or poultry products are packed. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

in writing: include printing and other modes of making legible words. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72

Incoming voting list: means the printed list of all of the voters in a municipality that is used by election officials at a voting place to record which voters have been issued a ballot at an election. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1

Injunction: An order of the court prohibiting (or compelling) the performance of a specific act to prevent irreparable damage or injury.

Inspector: means an employee or official of the State or an employee or official of the Federal Government or of any other governmental entity of this State, authorized by the commissioner to perform inspection functions under this chapter under an agreement between the commissioner and the governmental entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Intelligence and investigative record information: includes information of record concerning investigative techniques and procedures and security plans and procedures prepared or collected by a criminal justice agency or other agency. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 803

Judge: means a Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court or the Superior Court, any Judge of the District Court, any Administrative Court Judge or any Associate Administrative Court Judge who is actively serving as of December 1, 1984, or who is appointed subsequent to December 1, 1984, but does not include Active Retired Judges. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1201

Label: means a display of written, printed or graphic matter upon a product or the immediate container, not including package liners, of a product. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Labeling: means all labels and other written, printed or graphic matter:

lands: includes lands and all tenements and hereditaments connected therewith, and all rights thereto and interests therein. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72

Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). ^{Source: OCC}

Legal proceeding: means a proceeding or series of proceedings by which a legal judgment is invoked and includes but is not limited to:

Liabilities: The aggregate of all debts and other legal obligations of a particular person or legal entity.

License: means a license issued by the board stating that the applicant has met the requirements for the specified operator classification. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2621

Licensed establishment: means a person required to hold a license under section 2514. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Licensed public weighmaster: shall mean and refer to all persons who shall, for hire, weigh or measure any commodity, produce or article and issue therefor, a weight certificate, which shall be accepted as the accurate weight, upon which the purchase or sale of such commodity is based;

Lien: A claim against real or personal property in satisfaction of a debt.

Litigation: A case, controversy, or lawsuit. Participants (plaintiffs and defendants) in lawsuits are called litigants.

Livestock: means cattle, sheep, swine, goats or other designated animals, whether live or dead. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Livestock product: means a carcass or part of a carcass, meat or meat food product of any livestock. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Locally owned grocery store: means a grocery store at least 51% of which is owned by one or more residents of the State and that has a gross floor area of 25,000 square feet or less. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Locally owned restaurant: means an eating establishment at least 51% of which is owned by one or more residents of the State and that is not a chain restaurant pursuant to section 2491, subsection 2?B. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Long-term treatment: means treatment in a drug treatment center designed to provide treatment for a period in excess of 60 days. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 9701

Majority: when used in reference to age shall mean the age of 18 and over. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72

Maximum contaminant level: means the maximum concentration of a contaminant allowed under the State Primary Drinking Water Regulations in water supplied for human consumption. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2601

may: when used in this Title, is used in a permissive sense to grant authority or permission, but not to create duty, to act in the manner specified by the context. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 7

Meat: means muscle of livestock, an amenable species or an exotic animal as defined by the federal acts that is skeletal or that is found in the tongue, diaphragm, heart or esophagus, with or without the accompanying and overlying fat, and the portions of bone, skin, sinew, nerve and blood vessels that normally accompany the muscle tissue but does not include the muscle found in the lips, snout or ears. meat and poultry products broker: means a person engaged in the business of buying or selling livestock products or poultry products for other persons on commission or otherwise negotiating purchases or sales of these products other than for the broker's account or as an employee of another person. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

meat product: means a product useable as human food that is made wholly or in part from any meat or other portion of a carcass of livestock, an amenable species or an exotic animal as defined by the federal acts, excepting products that are exempted from definition as a meat food product by the commissioner under conditions that the commissioner may prescribe to ensure that the meat or other portions of carcass contained in products are unadulterated and that products are not represented as meat food products. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Medical review service provider: means an entity with whom the executive director has contracted for the review of medical records and the provision of recommendations, opinions and certifications under this chapter by health care providers employed by the entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1201

Member: means a judge who is included in the membership of the Maine Judicial Retirement System as provided in section 1301. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1201

Membership: means active participation in the program of a school from the date of enrollment to the time the student withdraws or is absent from the school for 10 consecutive days for reasons other than illness. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 15001

Membership service: means service rendered while a member of the Maine Judicial Retirement System for which credit is allowed under section 1302. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1201

Merger: means a business combination pursuant to section 1102. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 13-C Sec. 1101

Mistrial: An invalid trial, caused by fundamental error. When a mistrial is declared, the trial must start again from the selection of the jury.

Mobile poultry processing unit: means a poultry slaughterhouse that meets the structural, operational and licensing requirements of a mobile poultry processing unit under the federal acts and that is operated by a person licensed under section 2514. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Month: means a calendar month. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72

Mortgage: The written agreement pledging property to a creditor as collateral for a loan.

Motor fuel dispenser: means a commercial motor fuel dispenser that dispenses fuel for retail sale. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 2302

Multiple community water district: means that area comprising all municipalities served in whole or part by a single public water system plus those public water system zones within multiservice municipalities served by the same public water system. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2651-A

Multiple community water system district-wide election: means an election held in each municipality within a multiple community water district to determine whether or not to fluoridate the water supply of that system. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2651-A

Multiservice municipality: means any municipality served in whole or in part by more than one public water system. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2651-A

Municipal officers: means the mayor and municipal officers or councilors of a city, the members of the select board or councilors of a town and the assessors of a plantation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72

Municipality: means a city, town or plantation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2651-A

Municipality: includes cities, towns and plantations, except that "municipality" does not include plantations in Title 10, chapter 110, subchapter IV; or Title 30?A, Part 2. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72

National Drinking Water Regulations: means the drinking water regulations promulgated by the Administrator of the U. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2601

Nolo contendere: No contest-has the same effect as a plea of guilty, as far as the criminal sentence is concerned, but may not be considered as an admission of guilt for any other purpose.

Notice of noncompliance: means a formal written complaint or a notice of violation of state drinking water laws, regulations or rules. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2601

Oath: includes an affirmation, when affirmation is allowed. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72

Oath: A promise to tell the truth.

Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.

Official certificate: means a certificate established by rule of the commissioner for issuance by an inspector or other person performing official functions under this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Official device: means a device authorized by the commissioner for use in applying an official mark. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Official establishment: means an establishment as determined by the commissioner at which inspection of the slaughter of livestock or poultry or the preparation of livestock products or poultry products is maintained under the authority of this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Official inspection legend: means a symbol established by rule of the commissioner showing that a product was inspected and passed in accordance with this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Official mark: means the official inspection legend or any other symbol established by rule of the commissioner to identify the status of any product of livestock or poultry under this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Operator: means an individual either employed or retained by a public water system who, as part of the individual's job duties, is assigned the responsibilities for operational activities that will have a direct impact on the quality or quantity of water provided to consumers. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2601

Oven-dried wood: means wood that has been oven-dried to remove its moisture content according to standards as adopted by the American Society of Testing and Materials. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 2361-A

Oversight: Committee review of the activities of a Federal agency or program.

package: means a box, can, tin, cloth or plastic or other receptacle, wrapper or cover. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511

Package: means any commodity put up or packaged in any manner in advance of sale in units suitable for either wholesale or retail sale;
