Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes > Title 25 > Part 14 - Surveillance

  • Amortization: Paying off a loan by regular installments.
  • Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
  • Authority: means the Finance Authority of Maine as established by this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 963-A
  • Beneficiary: A person who is entitled to receive the benefits or proceeds of a will, trust, insurance policy, retirement plan, annuity, or other contract. Source: OCC
  • Beneficiary: means any person who receives or is designated to receive a benefit provided by this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 3 Sec. 701
  • Bureau of Motor Vehicles: means the Department of the Secretary of State, Bureau of Motor Vehicles. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 25 Sec. 6001
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Department: means a state, county or municipal government or a department, agency or subdivision thereof or any other entity identified in law as a public instrumentality, including, but not limited to, a law enforcement agency. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 25 Sec. 6001
  • Discovery: Lawyers' examination, before trial, of facts and documents in possession of the opponents to help the lawyers prepare for trial.
  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Facial surveillance: means an automated or semi-automated process that assists in identifying or verifying an individual, or in capturing information about an individual, based on the physical characteristics of an individual's face. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 25 Sec. 6001
  • Facial surveillance system: means any computer software or application that performs facial surveillance. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 25 Sec. 6001
  • financial assistance: means guarantees, leases, insurance, financing credits, loans or the purchase or discounts thereof, letters of credit, financing assistance payments, grants or other financial aid. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 963-A
  • Fraud: Intentional deception resulting in injury to another.
  • Loan: means an extension of credit made in consideration of a written promise of repayment or any other conditions that may be established by the authority, performance of which may be secured by mortgage. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 963-A
  • Note: means an evidence of indebtedness and includes a revenue obligation security. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 963-A
  • Probable cause: A reasonable ground for belief that the offender violated a specific law.
  • Project: means any eligible project. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 963-A
  • Public employee: means a person employed by a department, including, but not limited to, a law enforcement officer. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 25 Sec. 6001
  • Public official: means a person elected or appointed to a public office that is part of a department. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 25 Sec. 6001
  • Serious crime: means :
    (1) A crime under the laws of this State that:
    (a) Is punishable by a term of imprisonment of one year or more; or
    (b) Is a Class D or Class E crime under the laws of this State that is a violation of Title 17?A, chapter 9, 11, 12, 13 or 35; Title 15, section 1092, if the violation is based on a condition under Title 15, section 1026, subsection 3, paragraph A, subparagraph (5) or (8); or Title 19?A, section 4011; or
    (2) A crime under the laws of another jurisdiction that:
    (a) Has, as an element, the use of a firearm or other dangerous weapon against a person;
    (b) Is elementally substantially similar to a crime under subparagraph (1); or
    (c) Is punishable by a term of imprisonment of one year or more. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 25 Sec. 6001
  • United States: includes territories and the District of Columbia. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Waste oil: includes mixtures of waste oil and water. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 963-A
  • Year: means a calendar year, unless otherwise expressed. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
