1. Establishment. There is established the Public Utilities Commission which shall consist of 3 members.

Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes Title 35-A Sec. 103

  • Commission: means the Public Utilities Commission. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 35-A Sec. 102
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
2. Powers and duties. The commission has the following powers and duties.
A. All public utilities and certain other entities as specified in this Title are subject to the jurisdiction, control and regulation of the commission and to applicable provisions of this Title. [PL 2011, c. 623, Pt. D, §3 (AMD).]
B. The commission shall set the basic policies of the Public Utilities Commission and shall regulate public utilities in accordance with this Title. [PL 1987, c. 141, Pt. A, §6 (NEW).]
C. The commission shall oversee the activities of competitive electricity providers to the extent provided in this Title. [PL 2021, c. 659, §3 (AMD).]
D. The commission shall oversee and manage the Emergency Services Communication Bureau established under Title 25, chapter 352. [PL 2003, c. 359, §5 (NEW).]

3. Seal and office. The commission shall have a seal and be provided with office space.
