  • Assets: (1) The property comprising the estate of a deceased person, or (2) the property in a trust account.
  • Board: means the Board of Licensure of Water System Operators. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2621
  • Board of trustees: means the board provided for in section 1231. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1201
  • Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Health and Human Services. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1-A
  • Department: means the Department of Health and Human Services. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1-A
  • Injunction: An order of the court prohibiting (or compelling) the performance of a specific act to prevent irreparable damage or injury.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Multiple community water district: means that area comprising all municipalities served in whole or part by a single public water system plus those public water system zones within multiservice municipalities served by the same public water system. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2651-A
  • Multiple community water system district-wide election: means an election held in each municipality within a multiple community water district to determine whether or not to fluoridate the water supply of that system. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2651-A
  • Multiservice municipality: means any municipality served in whole or in part by more than one public water system. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2651-A
  • Municipality: means a city, town or plantation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2651-A
  • Operator: means an individual either employed or retained by a public water system who, as part of the individual's job duties, is assigned the responsibilities for operational activities that will have a direct impact on the quality or quantity of water provided to consumers. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2601
  • Person: means any individual, partnership, company, public or private corporation, political subdivision or agency of the State, department, agency or instrumentality of the United States or any other legal entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2601
  • Person: means both plural and the singular, as the case demands, and includes individuals, partnerships, corporations, companies, societies and associations;

  • Public water system: means the public water agency, company, utility, district or other entity serving one or more municipalities in whole or in part. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2651-A
  • public water system: includes any collection, treatment, storage or distribution pipes or other constructed conveyances, structures or facilities under the control of the supplier of water and used primarily in connection with such a system, and any collection or pretreatment storage facilities not under that control that are used primarily in connection with such a system. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2601
  • Public water system zone: means any one of the 2 or more areas of a multiservice municipality served by a single public water system, as further defined in section 2657. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2651-A
  • Registered petitioners: means those registered voters residing in a single community water district or, in the case of a multiple community water system district-wide election, those registered voters residing in the multiple community water district who have accepted the responsibility of receiving notice concerning the filing of petitions pursuant to section 2655, subsection 3. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2651-A
  • Retirement: means the termination of membership service with a retirement allowance granted under this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1201
  • Single community water district: means a municipality served in whole or in part by a water system which serves no other municipalities. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2651-A
  • Single-service municipality: means any municipality served in whole or in part by a single public water system. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2651-A
  • Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
  • Supplier of water: means any person who controls, owns or generally manages a public water system. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2601
  • Town: includes cities and plantations, unless otherwise expressed or implied. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Trustee: A person or institution holding and administering property in trust.
