  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
The Maine Human Rights Commission, established by section 12004?G, subsection 15, shall be an independent commission of no more than 5 members. No more than 3 of the members may be of the same political party. The members shall be appointed by the Governor, subject to review by the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over judiciary matters and confirmation by the Legislature.
