  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories.   The title to a portion of a state trunk line highway that is located in a county with a population of more than 9,000 but less than 9,700 and that was approved for abandonment by a county road commission on January 15, 1968 and approved for abandonment by the state administrative board on May 7, 1968 vests in the county that has jurisdiction over that portion as of the date of abandonment.
