Terms Used In Michigan Laws 3.168

  • Board: means the department of state. See Michigan Laws 3.161
  • Jurisdiction: means , except as otherwise provided in section 3, other states of the United States, the District of Columbia, territories and possessions of the United States, foreign countries, or political subdivisions of foreign countries. See Michigan Laws 3.161
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
   In the absence of a compact, agreement or arrangement with any jurisdiction, the board may examine the laws and requirements of the jurisdiction and declare the extent and nature of the exemptions and privileges to be extended to the owners or operators of vehicles properly registered or licensed in the other jurisdiction, which in the judgment of the board, shall be equivalent to the exemptions and privileges which are extended by the laws of the jurisdiction, to vehicles properly registered or licensed in this state, or to the owners or operators of vehicles properly licensed in this state.
